31 Day Nail Art Challenge

I have been busy doing a new nail art look for everyday this month! Boy, does it take up a lot of my time, so it'll be a while before I attempt something like this again. I am on Day Twenty-five today, but I thought I'd share some photos of my most popular looks that I have created so far. You can always check out this link directly to my blog: My Nail Art Hobby

Day Two Orange:
I tried to make Monarch Butterfly Wings.

Day Eight Metallic:
I call this Copper Weave and I had to do all the lines very slowly as my brain kept mixing which direction they went.

Day Twelve Stripes:
Pastel colours with silver stripes. A nice look for spring.

Day Twenty-one Inspired by Colour:
I did a colour block look for day twenty-one's challenge.

Anyway, that is just some highlights I thought I would share. Hope you like them and if you are interested in more designs please check out the link to my blog posted at the top of this page. :-)

I'm Dreaming of a White Easter??!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... Ha! Yes, we have snow once again. Just when I had put the boots away and was able to wear shoes outside, I have to return to boots again. It's a little sad.
It is supposed to snow all day but hopefully it'll melt soon and if we are really lucky this will be the last snowfall of the season. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed anyway...

Step Three (Day Three) Ombre Hair -Complete

I must be honest, this last and final step to getting purple hair was awful. I was somewhat successful with the results, but I won't do it again. At least not using Splat!

The bleaching I did yesterday was messy, but the colouring was horrific! The dye itself was the thinnest, runniest liquid I have ever used to dye my hair. The dye dripped everywhere and dyed everything instantly, except for my hair! My counter is now purple in spots, my skin is purple and it won't wash off! I only wish my hair was the colour my skin has now become. I would be happier.

I saturated my hair with the purple dye and let it sit for 30 minutes according to the instructions. I then got in the shower and rinsed my hair out, as it says to do, until the water runs clear. The water did not run clear.  When the water was as good as I thought I could get it, I shampooed, as per the instructions and even more dye came out and took ages to run semi-clear. At that stage, I decided to condition my hair because of all the damage it was suffering through and even more dye came out. After 15 minutes of rinsing my hair out, I gave up that it would ever run clear. The dye being rinsed out also made my tub extremely slippery! I am sure the dye will run out every time my hair gets wet until I cut it off. :-/

Any drips that occurred after towel drying my hair, dripped dye onto my clothes, floor and even a wall, as I must have shaken my head at some point. I had to run around cleaning up the drips the best I could. What a nightmare!

If you choose to use Splat hair colour, I suggest you use towels and clothes that you are prepared to throw out in the garbage. I am too terrified to put them in the wash, as I figure it will dye everything in the wash and more than likely a few loads of laundry after that.

**WARNING-Frightening pictures of me below. Proceed with caution.**

As you can see, I have achieved an ombre look, but it seems more of a dark pink to me, rather than the purple I had wanted.
Not the best pictures, sorry, but they are selfies so it's the best I could do. I tried to take this one in the sunlight, to hopefully see the colours better.
And one from the front, my hair is not styled, as I want to minimize the damage as much as possible and again no make up. I am wearing a high collared shirt to hide the purple dye all over my neck, chest and shoulders. ugh.

Before and After Photos:
Well, how badly do you think my hair turned out? Do you think you'd try this yourself? If you attempt this, you might want to try something other than Splat. If you have used Splat and didn't have these problems I'd like to know how it went for you. Thanks for reading. :-)

Step Two (Day Two) Ombre Hair

So, today I have bleached the bottom half of my hair and oh my gosh what a mess. The bleach comes with the Splat kit and it is quite a messy ordeal. You have to mix the bleach and the powder spilled a bit into my sink, but I managed to scoop some of it back and get it into the bottle.
Be sure if you do this to be in a well ventilated area as the smell, is well atrocious. It is bleach after all.
I divided my hair up in two sides bringing it forward from the back and applied all the bleach to the bottom sections. I then wrapped each side in a few pieces of plastic wrap and tried to hold it in place with some hair ties. I left it on for an hour as per the instructions as I have dark hair.

**WARNING: Pictures of me without make-up below. Proceed with caution.** haha

Here is the result. The bleached area of my hair is now a frizzy, tangled horror! I did not blow dry my hair, but let it dry naturally. And it's not very blonde, more of a strawberry blonde, meaning orangey.
Here's hoping the purple will take over the bleach and look good, because right now I find it a wee bit frightening. hahaha

Step One (Day One) Ombre Hair

Well, I have completed the first step of dying my hair in the ombre style. I dyed the top half (maybe a little bit more) with the Dark Burgundy dye from Avon. I simply followed the instructions that came in the box.
I made sure not to dye the bottom section that I will be doing in purple, as I did not want to put that section of my hair through three dying processes, two is bad enough. ;-)

*WARNING: there will be a picture of me with no make up again, so proceed with caution.* haha

There is no sunshine today, so the burgundy colour is rather hard to detect in this photo. Hopefully, the next two days will bring sunshine so you can see the colour better.

Step Two: Bleach the bottom section of my hair to prepare it for the purple. Watch for that tomorrow!

Three Day DIY Ombre Hair

Well, I have rather neglected this blog because I had a terrible winter health wise. The extreme cold temperatures gave my Fibromyalgia a very rough time. The weather is just starting to warm up for spring, although we are expecting more snow today. With the warmer temperatures I have been having an easier time.

Just this month I started a 31 Day Nail Art Challenge, that is keeping me very busy indeed! A new look everyday, takes up quite a bit of time to pull off. If you are interested in seeing what I have been doing with that please check out my other blog: My Nail Art Hobby. Just to warn you I'm not the greatest artist, but I have fun.

Last summer I had wanted to dye my hair purple. I've wanted purple hair since I was a punk teenager back in the 80's and now thanks to Splat I can finally give myself that! Alas, things didn't work out last summer, again Fibromyalgia was the culprit. Now I am determined to go for it! Rather than doing my entire head purple however, I have decided to try the Ombre style.
These are the two colours I will be using. Dark Burgundy from Avon for the top of my hair and Lusty Lavender by Splat for the bottom.

My plan is to dye the burgundy part on Day One. This will cover up my roots of white hair that are peeking through. Well it has been 6 months since the last time I dyed it. I was going to cut my hair first, but it is easier to put in a pony tail when it is longer. I prefer to have my hair up in a pony tail when the weather gets hot, if it ever does this year.

**WARNING: there will be pictures of me with no make up coming up, so proceed with caution.** lol

Eeeeek! Sorry for the fright! No make up and not looking very happy. Well it is the before picture, aren't you supposed to look your worst in those? haha
And from the side, this is more to be able to compare the ombre when I finally get that finished.

So here's the Plan:

Day One:    Dark Burgundy top half of hair dyed.
Day Two:   Bleaching bottom half of hair to prepare for the purple.
Day Three:  Lavender bottom half of hair dyed over the bleach.

I am spacing this out, so I hopefully won't wear myself out doing this and end up with my Fibromyalgia flaring up, as that could be an issue that prevents me from getting this done. :-/

Wish me luck, I hope it doesn't turn out terrible! I will post daily progress reports, so you can see how it's working and how I'm doing it.
