Hair Washing Frequency

When I was a kid, many, many years ago, we washed our hair once a week. Rumour has it, that when the babyboom ended, Johnson and Johnson's sales of their baby shampoo dropped dramatically, so they had to do something to increase those sales. Heaven forbid their quarterly earnings aren't higher than last quarter. Gosh. So they devised a little marketing ploy that exploded in our western culture, that their baby shampoo was gentle enough to use everyday! Bingo!
Sales increased and the myth that we had to wash our hair everyday was born. I mean, if it's on TV it must be true, right? lol And this is how it all got started, supposedly.

Personally, I have very dry hair and if I washed it everyday no matter how gentle the shampoo I would look like a sheep dog on a really bad day! lol So, I still follow what I did as a kid and wash my hair about once a week. I'm sure that if you have oily hair you will need to wash your hair more frequently. I get the most compliments on how nice my hair looks, when it is overdue for a wash, I guess when it is a little greasy it looks nice and shiny. I'm not kidding that's when people tell me how great my hair looks. You might want to take a minute to ponder that, in case you'd like to get compliments on your hair, too. :-)

My son, the scientist, informs me that our hair actually removes pollutants from the air, so the less often we wash it, the more pollutants we remove. I don't know if there was a study done on this or not, but it's nice to think I'm helping make the air we breathe a little cleaner for everyone, in a small way. lol

Different Uses for Blistex

I don't sell Blistex and I am not affiliated with them in anyway nor do I make any money off of this blog. However, I absolutely love this product for my very dry, chapped lips. I use this almost every night before I go to bed, so that my lips will be healed by morning. It usually only takes one night to heal them completely. This stuff is awesome.

After I apply this to my lips I have a habit of rubbing the excess into the back of my hand. This is how I discovered that it also helps to heal dry, red, chapped skin and it reduces ages spots (liver spots). How do I know? Because I tend to use my pointer finger on my right hand to apply the lip medex and then rub it on the back of my left hand. The back of my left hand looks less red and more youthful than the back of my right. lol

I purposely did this for a few weeks last winter to see the results and I was impressed. So, if you are looking for a fix for these problems I recommend giving this product a try. (I try to mix it up every now and then so my right hand doesn't miss out on the healing anymore.) hehe

DIY Business Cards

This is a great way to recycle old Christmas cards, greeting cards or Klenex boxes, stuff like that.
I think this project is best for crafty people, as you wouldn't want to use this if you are a C.E.O. of some financial company. lol
Use a real business card for your template and line it up on the surface of your card or box to cut around it.
So with this complete, you have cut out the base of your business card. Just repeat this as many times as you can on each card and box to cut out as many cards as possible. Don't forget the non-designed side of your card as you can make plain ones, that some people may prefer, just make sure there is no writing on it.
You then print out labels for your business cards. You can buy pre-sized labels if you like, but I went with a solid sheet that I could size the labels myself and cut them out to fit my cards. This way I can use the labels for other projects, too.
So, here I printed out a number of 'cards' on one sheet and the guidelines will help me to cut them out.
And here is the final result, after cutting out and sticking the label to the cut out card. I will be using them at my very first craft sale this weekend coming up. This gives customers the chance to pick out whatever card they like best. :-)

Snow on the Rooftops This Morning

Well, when I woke up this morning and opened my curtains, I discovered the roofs were covered in snow and it was still snowing a little.

It has all melted now, by the afternoon.

Halloween Special

Well, with Halloween only one week away, you might be looking for something scary to watch. This would not be it, but then again that depends on your definition of scary. lol

There are a lot of famous guests on Paul Lynde's Halloween Special and it was great seeing them. One guest was a particular favourite for me! Can you guess which one? (lol) So, if you are looking for something nostalgic then this will fit the bill. I really don't know if I saw this as a child, but I watched this a couple of days ago and just had to share it.

Watch it if you dare!! Muuhuuhuu waahaahaa! lol

Donnie and Marie from My Childhood

Oh! I used to love this show when I was a kid! I remember getting excited when I heard they were going to be doing a show together again about 10 years ago, only to be greatly disappointed they ended up doing a talk show. blah There were too many talk shows on t.v. in my opinion already. I wanted them to re-do their show from my childhood with the all the variety acts. That was fun!

So that is the link to their very first show. Check it out!
I had a crush on Donnie when I was a kid. lol He always wore purple socks, I remember that.

First Snow this Season

This is mainly for my son, who will be very jealous that it has snowed already here in Thunder Bay!

The camera is zoomed in all the way so it is very shaky, sorry about that. I tried to use a couple of the cars in the parking lot here for a darker background so the snow would show up better. Enjoy!

Help Your Soap Last Longer

So, you may have noticed that some bar soaps are individually wrapped when you buy them. This wrap keeps the bar moist and it causes the soap to get used up faster. At least that's the theory, I haven't actually timed it, but it does seem true.
So, to keep your soap lasting longer, simply unwrap it before you store it. This will help it to harden and last longer when finally used.
I store my soap in my linen closet, so the smell of the unwrapped soap helps it to smell nice, too.

Quick Measurement Conversion Online Link

When I got to about grade 3 in elementary school, Canada switched over to the Metric system. It was a slow and gradual change and in school we learned how to do the conversions between the old system and the new. Many things were still measured using the old system, since the adults hadn't learned the Metric system. Now that I am an adult everything is in Metric. However, I am somewhere in between having grown up in both systems. So for instance with cold temperatures I know them using Celsius, but for the hotter temperatures I know them using Fahrenheit. (-5C or 94F) lol

Due to this problem of not really learning either system fully and really just learning how to convert between the two, I never know how much anything is. haha  So, I found this great site online that does the math for me! :-D

http://www.worldwidemetric.com/measurements.html

I've got this site bookmarked and use it all the time! So, if you are like me and not sure how much things are in Metric you can use this handy site. It also comes in handy when needing to convert things from the USA, as I do believe they are the only country in the world that has not changed to Metric.

Vitamins that help my Fibromyalgia

Well, the title pretty much speaks for itself. These are vitamins that I take that I have found help me relieve some of my Fibromyalgia symptoms.
I started taking Vitamin D and it seemed to help relieve some of my tiredness. I read that the Evening Primrose Oil was known to help people with Fibromyalgia, so I thought I would give it a try. Before I began taking these vitamins, I would find that my energy level was anywhere from -40 to about +20% on any given day. It is very difficult to get anything done when your energy is that low. I now find with taking these vitamins that my energy is usually from +10 to + 40%, with the occasional day less than or equal to zero. This may not seem to be much for anyone who doesn't have this illness, but for me, it's amazing. I can actually get more than one thing done in a day and that helps me feel better about myself, too.

It's great being able to prepare a meal, and then actually have enough energy left over to be able to cook it, too. When I said I was only able to do one thing a day, I could actually only do one thing and then my energy would be completely spent. The great thing is that I have actually had two separate days, that were months apart, but on those days I felt I had 60% of my normal energy and wow, I liked that. I can only hope I get more days like that.

So, if you suffer from Fibromyalgia and are looking for something to help you out, you might want to give these a try. I am not on any medication because I don't have a doctor and I don't like to take medicine anyway, as it seems to make things worse for me rather than better. If you have a doctor and are on medicine, please check with them first before beginning these vitamins, as they may cause problems for you.

The tree has been concentrating on growing it's leaves, so it has only increased in height by an inch over the last month making it 2 feet tall now.

My Walk Home from Grocery Shopping

I'm lucky my trip to the local grocery store is on a path by this creek. It makes for a very pleasant trip.
The creek splits around a small island. The water is still pretty deep for this time year. When the water is lower the split on the right side dries up. That island used to have a gorgeous Pussy Willow tree on it, until we had a huge rainstorm that caused all kinds of flooding up here and the little creek was really high and it uprooted the tree. I guess the tree is in Lake Superior now, where this creek leads to.
A closer view of the right side around the little island.

There is a mini waterfall along the creek.
This is some new graffiti under the bridge along the path home.
From under the graffiti bridge, a view of a second bridge and the creek running underneath.
A little peek at the creek a bit closer to home now.

(I haven't posted in a while, as Monster our cat was very, very ill last week and I spent all my time nursing him back to health. He is getting better, but still needs lots of care. Poor little guy.)
