UFO Planet on Youtube

This is quite the show and a long time overdue. I haven't seen anything else like this out there. Darin Crapo is from Alberta, Canada and hosts this little show with objectivity and good old Canadian sense of humour. I really enjoy watching this program.

Find it here on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/ldsmess?feature=watch

Or go to the website at 4U2Ctv: http://ufoplanet.4u2ctv.com/

What I like most about this show is that Darin looks at the videos he shares and gives his opinion on what it is he thinks is in the video. He doesn't debunk everything he sees, and at the same time he doesn't blindly believe everything shown is a UFO. It's so refreshing to hear from someone who doesn't have an agenda other than 'lets look at this and see if we can figure out what it is'. I really like that.

There is nothing worse in my opinion, than watching someone shoot off their mouth and debunk every single thing without studying all the facts involved and labelling it 'swamp gas, weather balloon or chinese lantern'. At the same time, there is nothing worse (again in my opinion) than watching someone who claims to be an UFOlogist and they show you absolutely crappy videos or pictures of things that are obviously faked along with a couple of pretty good examples, because they just make the good stuff look bad when they do that.

I started watching this show at episode 1 and have worked up to episode 47 so far, but there are 64 episodes completed so far, so I still have a ways to go. If you take the time to check them out, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Make Your Own Decoupage (DIY Mod Podge)

So, I went to the Michael's store here in Thunder Bay and let me tell you, only a truly insane person would pay those prices, so I promptly left. lol  I had been looking into buying Mod Podge, but at that price, I'd do without.

I then decided to look online to see if anyone had revealed how to make your own and low and behold I found it here: http://doityourselfdivas.blogspot.ca/2011/09/diy-mod-podge.html

I had bought a large bottle of white glue from Canadian Tire, that was way cheaper than even a small bottle of Mod Podge at Michael's, and my son washed out a recently emptied jar of jam and I was all set. Interesting that you can get full strength glue for way cheaper than watered down glue.

Start off by filling your jar half way with white glue.
Fill the other half with tap water.
Shake it up, baby! Shake, shake, shake it until is mixed thoroughly.
I then cut out some wrapping paper for a make shift label for this jar and used the decoupage inside it, to glue it on!
And here we go, all done, even if it is a little bumpy. ;-)  Sometimes I love being cheap. lol

Follow the Moon

I love watching the phases of the moon and with this handy site you can know exactly the percentage the moon is full. I use this all the time, especially when it's getting close to full.

Here's the link: http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/moon_phases.phtml

Be sure to bookmark the page, so you can return to it time and time again! :-)

Eddie Izzard Tickets!!!

I'm so excited, I got tickets to go see Eddie Izzard who will be performing here in November! He's a very smart and funny man.
He is going to be touring Canada and I must have purified some karma, cause he's making a stop here in Thunder Bay and I got tickets!
I'm so excited to see him live. I've seen a few of his videos on Youtube and he was in the Mystery Men movie, as the god of hairspray. lol If you aren't familiar with his stuff here is a link from his past: http://youtu.be/lnBtd-dOnUQ

I love this little Lego video that was made from a soundclip from one of his shows:
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv5iEK-IEzw

Lego videos are usually awesome. lol

Another great thing about Eddie is that he wears nail art! I'll have to come up with a nail art design to wear to his performance. :-)

Pictures of Galaxies and deep space.

You can find all kinds of great photos from space on the NASA website. I love browsing around to see what's there. I have a couple of links you can choose from:

The view on Mars.

Fascinating stuff and great inspiration. I use some of these images to do nail art. ;-)
Take a look for yourself!

Step Three to Better Health

I have been told by a dietician that we should all get at least two servings of fruit a day. So if you aren't already getting two fruits then start by eating at least one a day and build up to having two. Don't over do it on the fruit if you aren't use to eating it, because that could lead to some issues in the washroom. haha
For portion size you can check out Canada's Food Guide here: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/index-eng.php

Four ounces of pure fruit juice is one serving, so if you are having a large glass you are probably getting two servings. If you are not a big fruit eater, then you may want to start by adding a small glass of juice to your day to begin with, but do try to build up to eating two servings of raw fruit. Moderation and variety are the keys to success, so look for different ways to get your fruit, such as apple sauce, pure fruit juices (not punches or cocktails), compote, smoothies, salads and so forth.
Happy eating!

Big Spider!

Well, with the coming of the colder weather, the spiders are heading indoors once again. Holy Crap I had a huge spider crawl into my apartment from the hallway! Eeek.
This thing was furry, black with grey stripes. The picture is a little blurry, but I wasn't getting any closer to this thing than I had to. hahaha  This is with the full zoom option on the camera. Yes, spiders freak me out. Well, it went under my couch and then when it tried to come back out Sebastian (our black cat) spotted it and pawed it as the thing tried to get back under the couch for safety. Sebastian pawed it three times, but it got away. I haven't seen it since.

I did have a smaller black spider behind my computer monitor the other day. Later when I was doing my blogs I spotted it sitting up on top of my webcam. The cheeky little thing just sat there while I worked. I kept hoping it wasn't a jumpy spider and left as soon as I could. I haven't seen that one since then either. lol

Creep me out. I'm glad I don't live anywhere warm enough for huge spiders. I couldn't handle it.

Sick Cat Remedy

Well, poor little Monster is sickly and what a fuss he caused in the wee hours of the morning. Scared me with a cry I have never heard him make before. It's not fun when your pet gets sick because they can't tell you what's wrong. I think he is having intestinal problems. He's had this before, so I am using the same remedy I used last time.

If it doesn't work I will have to take him to the vet, but it costs me hundreds of dollars the last time and they wanted to give him surgery that would have cost thousands or put him to sleep. I brought him home looked up what to do online and found this great remedy, which worked like a charm and I wish I had thought to do that in the first place. I don't trust that vet anymore at all.

Pumpkin is a great stool softener for cats and helps them get things going. Monster is going but with some trouble, so I hope this will clear things up for him. I mix a couple of teaspoons of pure pumpkin with tuna. I try to find the best tuna with the least ingredients in it. This brand was just tuna and water.
He seemed to be his normal self before I went to the store to get this stuff, but I figured it might help to prevent anymore trouble for him. He was practically jumping onto the table to eat this as I was preparing it. lol

So, if you find your cat is blocked up, give this remedy a try before visiting the vets. However, if it doesn't work and your cat has stopped eating and drinking for a couple of days then be sure to get him to the vets.

Here is a link to other remedies you can try: http://pets.thenest.com/natural-laxatives-stool-softeners-cats-9210.html

DIY Flavoured Hot Chocolate

With the fall season only a couple of days away, for those of us in the northern hemisphere anyway, I thought I would share my recipe for a cup of hot chocolate.

Flavoured Hot Chocolate

2 teaspoons cocoa powder
2 teaspoons sugar
2 - 3 drops pure orange extract (or vanilla, peppermint, almond or your favourite)
1/4 cup your favourite milk or cream
boiling water

In a mug, place the cocoa powder, sugar and flavour drops. Pour in the milk and stir thoroughly to get rid of lumps and until the cocoa is no longer dry. Add boiling water until your mug is full, stirring until mixed well.

Enjoy! Once again adjust the recipe to suit you best.

Simple Pet Hair Removal

Got hair from your pets all over your upholstery that you need to clean off? Want a cheap way to do it?

Here is a very simple technique to use. All you need is a rubber glove and water!
Simply run the wet rubber glove over the surface that needs hair removed.
And there you have it! A handful of pet fur you can dispose of. Simply re-wet the glove once it is clean and start again to remove all the hair from your upholstery!

American News Can Legally Lie To You

This may not be news to some of you as it is fairly old, but it may be to others. Fox News won the right to lie to the public. No surprise that Monsanto was behind this little legal maneuver.

Here is one story about it: http://www.relfe.com/media_can_legally_lie.html

As Fox has won this right, it is now legal for all American media to lie to the public. Be very careful when listening to American news. Go to other sources of news, educate yourself on matters that are important to you and don't believe everything you hear in the news reports.

With corporations owning the media, many stories are created to get you to buy their products, like bottled water for instance, so be careful of how you are being manipulated!

Fun Games Online!

I love the Armor Games site, it has a huge selection of games to play. Click the link to check all of them out!

http://armorgames.com/

Some of my all time favourite are the Papa's Pizzeria style games. I have not actually played Papa's Pizzeria, as I haven't found it on Armor Games, but I have played all the others. The latest in the series is Papas Cupcakeria!
Watch out these games can be addictive! And they can make you hungry, haha ~joking.
I think my favourite is the Freezeria game, set on a tropical island you have to make Blizzard style ice cream treats for your customers. Yum!
The games are set up that somehow you are given a franchise from Papa and then have to learn the ropes of running your eatery.

Each customer wants their food prepared their special way. The better you get at making the food items the more ingredients you get to use.
In some cases as your skill increases, the more choices you get for the initial food preparation, such as cooking the meat for different lengths of time or having different flavours to choose or even different sizes.
The first stage is to take the order, then you prepare the product in the second stage. During the third stage is when you cook it (except for the Freezeria, you blend it) and the final stage is adding the toppings.
Keep your customers happy that's the name of the game. You also get to decorate your store in a variety of ways and change your outfits, all in an attempt to make your customers love you and want to return.

Give these games a try or any other games you might like at this site. There are a lot of good games to choose from, that's for sure. :-)

Mischievous Cats

The trouble cats get into or at least the trouble they cause me. haha

This bed was made until Sebastian decided he needed to sleep there and somehow managed to shove the blankets out of the way.  He must have somehow gotten inside them and got out of them. Anyway, I found the bed like this three times in a row after re-making the bed over and over, so I gave up and let him have it his way.

Monster and his boxes, well, that's every cat really isn't it? So I had these boxes piled up to get ready for recycling and then I caught sight of this. Somehow he got the box open and then got inside it. I don't know how he managed it. The box underneath is empty, so it must be a good sturdy box, I guess. lol  Crazy kitties.

For the Birds

These cookies are literally for the birds! I found this great recipe while looking for crafty things to do with birdseed. I wanted to do something fun and a little different for our bird friends.

Here is the link for the recipe: http://blog.imaginechildhood.com/imagine-childhood/2011/02/-barn-stories-bird-cookies.html

I didn't have any fruit on hand at the time to use, so I looked up what vegetables are good and used corn instead of blueberries. The birds didn't take long to figure out these were for them and they seem to like them well enough.
These would be good to make any time of year, and especially in the early spring when they have it the hardest to find food. Many people feed the birds in the winter and stop when spring comes around, but the bugs and plants haven't arrived just yet for them to eat, so they need some extra help then.

Cheap Way to Unclog a Drain

My bathroom sink is a real pain and clogs all the time. >.<

I prefer to use things that are safer for my family, so I don't buy harsh chemical products when I can avoid it.

Baking Soda and Vinegar to the rescue! You can use these products in a multitude of ways, but for today's post we are going to unclog that darn drain. lol

Use a plunger to drain the water out of your sink as much as possible, this may take some time, so remember Patience is a Virtue. ;-)  Once your sink is as empty as you can get it, pour some baking soda down the drain, maybe about 1/4 of cup or less. Be sure you have a fan or other ventilation working. Then pour some vinegar down the drain on top of the baking soda, probably about the same amount as the baking soda or a little less.
Then the fun begins and you get to watch the chemical reaction. Lots of bubbles that grow bigger and bigger. Let this do it's business for about 10 minutes or thereabouts. When this time is up put your plug in the drain and fill the water basin with hot water. Remove the plug and see if your drain is totally clear and that the water is emptying out well.

If your drain still isn't clearing properly, repeat the process over again until it is.
This is sooo much cheaper and safer than the store bought drain clearing products. Many years ago, I had a very bad clogged up metal kitchen sink and no word of a lie one of those products ate a hole in the metal sink. I was so glad when I learned of this method.

Tasty Egg Salad

Mmmm... toasted egg salad sandwich. Here is my recipe which everyone seems to love, so I thought I'd share it. I had to try to figure out the measurements, because I've been making it this way for so long I just add the ingredients without paying attention.

Tasty Egg Salad

5 hard boiled eggs (shell completely removed)
3 heaping tablespoons whipped dressing (like Miracle Whip)
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon vinegar
1/4 teaspoon turmeric (my nutritionist tells me this is a detoxifier and very good for you)
1/4 teaspoon salt
pinch of ground black pepper

Using a fork, mash the eggs into small bits. Add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Feel free to play around with amounts to find what you like best. You can also add diced onion or green onion or celery to this if you wish.
Hope you like it!

Easy Way to Peel a Hard Boiled Egg

Here is a little trick I learned while working in the food industry to speed up the process to remove egg shell from a hard boiled egg.

I am wearing nail polish in these photos (sorry), as I am only preparing these for myself. If you are working with food to feed people outside of your family and/or close friends it is best to not wear any nail polish. No one working in the food services should be wearing nail polish, as this can be a health issue.
Start off with your hard boiled egg on a hard surface. I have mine on a cutting sheet on my table (better lighting). You want to take your egg in hand with the larger end down and the pointy end up.

There is an air bubble inside the shell at the bottom of your egg. Smack the egg down onto the surface to break the shell. Your egg should be able to stand on it's own like that.
Now place your egg on it's side. Here we can see the cracked bottom.
Press down on the egg until you hear it or feel it cracking and simply roll the egg all the way around until the shell is damaged.
Remember your egg has an air pocket at the bottom, so that is best place to start peeling off the shell. It should come off quite easily and quickly using this method.
Once you have removed all the shell, be sure to rinse your egg off in water to remove any tiny stray bits that may be stuck still. And there you have it. :-)

A Couple of Crazy Internet Dogs

These are just too funny, as far as I'm concerned.
The husky looks like he knows he's photo bombing this pic. lol What a great face!

http://www.lolbrary.com/lolpics/919/doggie-firework-attack-5919.gif

I keep this video bookmarked so that I can watch it over and over again. It helps to cheer me up. I think the dog has it out for the older gentleman in the video, though. hahaha
